People are remembered for their hairstyles, whether it is one they had in high school or as they got older. And, for many the mullet is one such hairstyle that they are remembered for. No other haircut has ever had more attention during and after its peak of popularity than this one. It was loved by men and women everywhere which may be why that despite its fall-out with popularity over a decade again, mullet hairstyles for men are slowly making a comeback.
When someone says mullet, most people have a certain picture in their head, but not everyone understands exactly what constitutes the name. The trademark look of a mullet is short hair in front and long in the back. The front and sides are generally layered and the hair is all one length in back. The back had to be noticeably longer than the sides and fronts to be considered a mullet.
Many famous names have been attached to this hairstyle over the years, from film stars to sport stars to famous musicians. But the two most famous may be the "Bolton" mullet and the "Billy Ray" mullet. Both extremely popular and loved by women everywhere. And, their sexy mullets only added to their appeal, creating a demand in other men for similar haircuts with the front very short and layered and the backs very long.
Other mullets also attracted attention, like the "dirty dancing" mullet. This cut was a tad more subtle with a back that wasn't much longer than the sides, yet noticeable longer. The unique part of this cut is that it looked soft, the front and sides had that tousled look, like they just ran their fingers through it. Another that attracted the attention of the women was the "lost boys" mullet. Here you had a sexy vampire sporting a mullet with the front and sides spiked, making him irresistible.
Although in general, when someone says mullet a man's haircut is what comes to mind, but women have also had these cuts. The 1980's made this cut famous, but it started a decade or two before that. However by the time the people of the 80's were done with it, it had gone through changes in colors and styles. And, throughout it all, the hair in back seemed to get longer and longer each year, especially among the rockers.
Celebrities today are bringing the mullet back to Hollywood. Awards ceremonies recently have been honored with the presence of many stars wearing their own mullet haircuts. This version though does not have hair down the back or even longer than the shoulders. These are a more subtle mullet, at first glance one doesn't even notice it and then the celebrity turns their head and viola, a mullet. This type should be considered the mini-mullet though.
Sport stars are also taking advantage of reviving the mullet. Like the mini-mullet of Hollywood, these are not as long as the 80's mullet. But they are a tad bit longer than the Hollywood version, generally to the collar or at times to the shoulder. These are definitely noticeable no matter how quick the glance is too.
People may forget about certain hairstyles unless they are shown a picture, but the mullet has been burned into everyone's minds from the moment it gained in popularity. No other hairstyle has been remembered such as this one. It is no surprise that celebrities are bringing it back in slowly. And, no matter whether it is called a mini-mullet or not, a mullet is a mullet no matter the name and it's headed back to the red carpet.
